Terms & Conditions

Last updated 26 October 2026

These terms apply to every service GEEnet provides and to your use of this website. They are written to comply with the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (CPA), the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (ECTA), the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and ICASA's regulations. Where any clause conflicts with your rights under those laws, the law applies. Tap a heading to read it.

1About these terms

1.1 "GEEnet", "we" and "us" mean GEEnet of 63 New St, Grahamstown/Makhanda. "You" means the person or business that signs up for a service.

1.2 Your agreement with us is made up of these terms, the Acceptable Use and Fair Usage policies below, and the package you chose when ordering. If they conflict, the package details apply first, then these terms.

1.3 You must be 18 or older to sign up. Anyone younger needs written consent from a parent or guardian.

2Our services and installation

2.1 GEEnet fibre services run over the Frogfoot and Openserve fibre networks. Availability at your address depends on that network operator. If your address cannot be connected, we will refund any amount you paid in advance.

2.2 Installation is carried out by GEEnet or the network operator. You must give the installer safe, reasonable access to your premises and get any permission needed from the property owner or body corporate.

2.3 Fibre termination equipment installed by the network operator remains its property. Do not move, open or tamper with it. Routers supplied by GEEnet remain our property unless you bought them outright, and must be returned in good condition when the service ends.

2.4 By law (RICA), we must verify your identity and address before activating a service. Please have your ID and proof of address ready.

3Fees, billing and payment

3.1 Prices on our website are monthly prices in South African rand, including VAT where applicable. Once-off installation or activation fees are shown separately when you order.

3.2 Monthly fees are billed in advance by debit order or EFT. Your first invoice is calculated pro rata from the date your service is activated.

3.3 If payment is not received by the due date, we will notify you. If the account remains unpaid, we may suspend the service until it is settled. A reconnection fee may apply.

3.4 We will give you at least 30 days' written notice of any price increase. If you do not accept the new price, you may cancel under clause 4 before it takes effect.

4Duration and cancellation

4.1 Month-to-month services continue until cancelled. Either party may cancel by giving one calendar month's written notice.

4.2 Fixed-term contracts run for the term stated when you order, up to a maximum of 24 months. As provided in section 14 of the CPA, you may cancel at any time by giving 20 business days' written notice. If you cancel before the end of the term, you remain liable for amounts owing up to the cancellation date and a reasonable cancellation penalty, calculated as the CPA regulations allow.

4.3 Between 40 and 80 business days before a fixed term ends, we will remind you that it is ending and tell you about any changes. Unless you tell us otherwise, the service then continues month to month.

4.4 Section 14 of the CPA does not apply where both parties are juristic persons, such as companies. Business customers are bound to the full fixed term unless we agree otherwise in writing.

4.5 We may end the agreement if you materially breach it and do not fix the breach within 20 business days of written notice.

4.6 Send cancellation notices in writing to cancellation@geenet.co.za.

5Fair usage on uncapped packages

5.1 Uncapped means there is no fixed monthly data limit. Uncapped packages are intended for normal residential or business use.

5.2 To keep the network fast for everyone, GEEnet may manage traffic for accounts whose usage is far above normal and degrades the service for other customers. Before taking any lasting action, we will contact you to discuss your usage.

5.3 Uncapped packages may not be resold, shared with neighbouring properties, or used to run commercial hosting services, unless agreed in writing.

6Service availability and maintenance

6.1 We work to keep your service running at all times. Speeds are line speeds up to the package maximum. Actual speeds depend on your equipment, Wi-Fi conditions and the sites you visit.

6.2 We will try to give advance notice of planned maintenance and to schedule it outside business hours.

6.3 We are not responsible for outages caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including load shedding and power failures, theft or vandalism of infrastructure, faults on a network operator's or upstream provider's network, severe weather and natural disasters.

6.4 Report faults on 046 622 5544 (Mon–Fri, 8am–5pm), at support@geenet.co.za, or by logging a ticket at support.geenet.co.za.

7Acceptable use policy

7.1 This policy defines the accepted behaviour of users on GEEnet's network. It allows us to maintain the integrity and quality of our services, protect our customers and infrastructure from abuse, comply with South African law, and act as a responsible member of the global internet community.

7.2 GEEnet cannot control the data passing over its infrastructure and the internet, including websites, email, newsgroups or other material accessible over it, and is not responsible for that data. When our network connects you to other networks, you agree to follow their acceptable use policies.

7.3 Resellers of GEEnet services are responsible for the activities of their own customers.

7.4 You may download material that is made available for download, but you may not use your connection to distribute copyrighted material without the owner's permission.

7.5 You may not use our network to obtain, distribute or facilitate unlawful material or activity, including:

  • copying or dealing in intellectual property without authorisation;
  • child sexual abuse material, which we will report to the South African Police Service as the law requires;
  • unlawful hate speech, harassment or threats;
  • sending spam or other unsolicited bulk messages;
  • hacking, scanning, denial-of-service attacks, or spreading viruses or other malicious code;
  • fraud, phishing or impersonation.

7.6 You are responsible for securing your own devices and Wi-Fi network and for all use of your connection.

7.7 We may suspend a service immediately if it is being used unlawfully or is putting the network or other customers at risk. We will tell you why as soon as reasonably possible.

8Take-down notices

8.1 If you believe material hosted on or transmitted through GEEnet's network is unlawful or infringes your rights, send a take-down notice to info@geenet.co.za. Section 77 of ECTA sets out what the notice must contain, including your contact details, the material concerned, the right being infringed and a statement that the notice is made in good faith.

8.2 We will act promptly on valid notices. Anyone who submits a notice knowing it to be false may be liable for damages under ECTA.

9Your privacy

9.1 We collect and use your personal information only to provide, bill for and support your services, and to meet our legal obligations, in line with POPIA.

9.2 We keep your information and your communications confidential. We do not sell your information, and we share it only with the network operators and service providers who need it to deliver your service, or when the law requires us to.

9.3 We will only send you marketing with your consent, and you can opt out at any time.

9.4 You may ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing info@geenet.co.za. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator.

10Complaints

10.1 Please contact us first on 046 622 5544, at support@geenet.co.za, or by logging a ticket at support.geenet.co.za. We will give you a reference number.

10.2 We aim to resolve complaints within 14 working days.

10.3 If your complaint is not resolved within 14 working days, or you are unhappy with the outcome, you may escalate it to GEEnet management at director@geenet.co.za, quoting your GEEnet reference number.

10.4 If your complaint is still not resolved after it has been escalated to management, you may refer it to the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) at icasa.org.za, quoting your GEEnet reference number.

11Limitation of liability

11.1 As far as the law allows, GEEnet is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including loss of data, profits or business, arising from the use of or inability to use our services.

11.2 Our total liability for any claim is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

11.3 Nothing in these terms limits liability for gross negligence or excludes any right you have under the CPA.

12Website disclaimer

12.1 The information on this website is for general information only. While we work to keep it up to date and correct, we make no warranties about its completeness, accuracy, reliability or suitability. Any reliance you place on it is at your own risk.

12.2 We are not liable for any loss or damage, including indirect or consequential loss or loss of data or profits, arising from the use of this website.

12.3 This website links to other websites. We have no control over their content or availability, and a link does not mean we endorse them.

12.4 Every effort is made to keep the website running smoothly. However, GEEnet is not liable if the website is temporarily unavailable due to technical issues beyond our control.

13General

13.1 These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.

13.2 We may update these terms from time to time. We will give you at least 30 days' notice of any material change by email or on this website. If you do not accept a change, you may cancel under clause 4.

13.3 Our address for legal notices is 63 New St, Grahamstown/Makhanda, and info@geenet.co.za. Yours is the physical and email address you gave us when you signed up.

13.4 If any clause is found to be invalid, the rest of these terms still apply.
